Expression of endothelin-1 in plasma of patients with hypertensive retinopathy in essential hypertension.

Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of endothelin-1(ET-1)in patients with hypertensive retinopathy(HRP)and to evaluate the association between ET-1 level and HRP. Methods A total of 120 essential hypertensive patients with HRP, including 60 patients with grade I HRP and 60 with grade II HRP, were recruited. Sixty healthy subjects were selected as control group. The concentration of ET-1 was measured by enzyme-linked immunoassay technique. The relationship of HRP and ET-1 was analyzed. Results The level of ET-1 was(46.4±10.8),(80.9±13.2)and(98.6±11.7)pg/mL in control, grade Ⅰ HRP and grade Ⅱ HRP groups respectively, which increased sucessively, and there was statistical significance among three groups(F=296.54, P=0.029). Conclusion ET-1 level anomalies are related with hypertensive retinopathy.
