Methods Materialises Interactive Mederical Image Control System was employed to process the DICOM images from a computed tomography(CT)scan of the larynx by means of distinguishing different components using gray-level thresholding for different tissues. All 3-D visualization models of the larynx were only generated by this software. ABAQUS software was used to handle the grid layout of the larynx finite element model. Results A 3-D model that finely represented the morphological characteristics of the pediatric larynx was generated using finite element technology. This model is comparable with the results of laryngoscopy. Conclusion The 3-D finite element model of the pediatric larynx provides a foundation for further study.
