Abstract:

Objective    To investigate Th17 /T regulatory (Treg) cell ratio in laryngeal cancer. Methods    The two T cell subsets were determined in the peripheral blood of 33 patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and 15 healthy volunteers by flow cytometry.  Results    Compared with the healthy controls, patients had a significantly (P<0.01) higher proportion of both Th17 and Treg cells. Higher frequencies of Treg cells and lower frequencies of Th17 cells were found in patients with lymph node involvement. Moreover, in patients without lymph node involvement, the ratio of Th17/Treg was significantly higher than that in patients with lymph node involvement. Conclusion    Our results suggested a counter regulation of Th17 and Treg cells may be involved in the development and progression of LSCC.
