Clinical study on glaucoma patients’ quality of life and related factors

Abstract: Objective    To study glaucoma patients’ quality of life and influencing factors.  Methods    The quality of life of 120 cases of glaucoma was evaluated with the scale of quality of life for diseases with visual impairment.  Results    Scores of glaucoma patients’ quality of life were generally decreased. It showed a statistically significant difference between groups based on visual impairment(P<0.01) or health education(P<0.01); it also showed a statistically difference between groups based on gender(P<0.05). The visual impairment was the significant factor to the patients’ quality of life. Health education and gender were the main influencing factors. Conclusion    The scores of quality of life of glaucoma patients are generally low. Doctors should pay attention to patients’ social, psychological and other factors while protecting visual function in patients with glaucoma. It is necessary to give enough health education and psychological intervention to improve their quality of life.
