Abstract:

To investigate the effect of selective neck dissection (SND) in treating noncancerous neck diseases.  MethodsThirteen patients (5 abscess or ulcerlymphoid tuberculosis, 7 recurrent branchial fistula, 1 trachelophyma after biopsy) were treated by RND.  All pathologically abnormal tissues were completely dissected.  ResultsRND was good in removing the pathologically changes which were closely sticking to peripheral tissues with an indefinite boundary, widely distributed and had an undesired effect after conventional treatments.  No accessory nerve or laryngeal nerve injury adverse wound healing occurred in this present study.  Conclusion RND is effective in the treatment of recurrent second and third bronchial fistula, and abscessformed (>3cm) or fistulized lymphoid tuberculosis.
