Treatment for otitis media with effusion with endotoscopic myingotomy and grommet insertion

Abstract:

To evaluate the effect of endotoscopic myingotomy and grommet insertion in treatment of otitis media with effusion. MethodGrommet insertion was performed on 98 ears of 84 cases under endotoscopic myingotomy from October 2003 to May 2007. Pure tone threshold was determined preoperatively and postoperatively. ResultsAll patients were followed up from 6 months to 18 months (with an average of 10 months). 57 ears were healed, 38 ears were improved and 3 ears were invalid. ConclusionEndotoscopic myingotomy in combination with grommet insertion has advantages of good vision, minimal invasion,  quick recovery and excellent curative effects, and it is simple and effective for otitis media with effusion.
