Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy of bipolar radiofrequency ablation on nasal obstruction and cilia of nasal mucosal in patients with inferior tubinate hypertrophy. Methods: Sixty patients were enrolled in this study, and bipolar radiofrequency ablation was used on inferior turbinate. Visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to investigate the pre and postoperative 3month nasal obstruction, and sacchariu technique was used to test the mean nasal mucociliary transport rate (MTR). Results: Mean obstruction(VAS) improved from 72.5%±10.2% to 40.3%±10.6%(right side), and from 68.7%±9.6% to 35.0%±9.2%(left side); MTR was from preoperative(7.64±1.56)mm/min to postoperative 3month (6.89±2.01)mm/min. Conclusion: Radiofrequency for submucosal tissue ablation in treatment of the hypertrophied inferior turbinate is effctive for relieving the nasal obstruction, and it has no obvious side effect on nasal mucosa function
