Interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β), a member of the IL-1 family, is an inflammatory factor mainly synthesized by monocytes and macrophages. It participates in a variety of cellular activities, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and pyrogenesis. IL-1 β can also promote the differentiation and activation of T and B cells, promote the expression of a variety of immune molecule-related genes, and is an important mediator of inflammatory response. IL-1 β can induce human respiratory epithelial cells to release cytokines, enhance the chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, participate in upper airway remodeling, and affect the occurrence and development of upper airway inflammatory diseases. This article will review the biological role and mechanism of IL-1 β in allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, and other common upper airway inflammatory diseases, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of upper airway inflammatory diseases.
