The relationship between allergens and allergic conjunctivitis identified by a positive skin prick test.

Abstract: Objective To detect the causative allergens of allergic conjunctivitis and analyze the relationship between these allergens and the clinical characteristics of allergic conjunctivitis. Methods The symptoms and signs from 40 cases of allergic conjunctivitis were evaluated and analyzed; the causative allergens were detected in all the cases using skin prick testing. Results Dust and pollen were found to be the most common allergens. There was a positive correlation among positive detection rate of allergens,the severity of symptoms and the age of the patients. Conclusion Dust and pollen were the main causative allergens in allergic conjunctivitis, and the types of allergens were found to be associated with the age of the patients. A higher positive detection rate of allergens indicated a higher risk of other allergic diseases.
