A review of corneal collagen cross-linking for the treatment of infectious corneal disease

Abstract:

Corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) using ultraviolet light (UVA)-riboflavin photochemistry increases corneal rigidity and improves biomechanical stability of the stroma, thereby limiting the progression of corneal expansion. In recent years, CXL has also been used as a safe and effective treatment for infectious corneal diseases. In this paper, we review the basic principles, indications, and contraindication of CXL for the treatment of infectious corneal disease.
