Abstract: To study the characteristics and curative effect of excimer laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia in aged patients. Methods:Fortyeight patients over 40 years (96 eyes) were treated with LASIK, and the preoperative refraction, the refractive diopter supposed to be corrected and the curative effects were compared with the control group (54 patients less 40 years, 108 eyes operated in the same term). Results: The postoperative uncorrected far visual acuity of older myopic patients was 0.97±0.30, which was lower than that of full correction in younger patients operated in the same term (1.18±0.19), but was better than the far visual acuity of supposed refractive diopter in spectacle (0.74±0.16). Near vision of older myopic patients reaching the scale of J1 was lower than contrastive younger group, and complaint of dry eye was obvious more than younger group. Conclusions: LASIK is safe and effective for older myopic patients. Actual corrective diopter may be reduced because of agerelated presbyopia, and the far vision and near vision would be satisfactory postoperatively.
