A comparison of intra-operative mitomycin C and post-operative heparin in trabeculectomy

Abstract: Objective： To explore the effect of intra-operative mitomycin C and post-operative heparin in trabeculectomy for glaucoma. Methods: One hundred and fifty eyes of ninety patients were randomly divided into the mitomycin C group and the heparin group. Mitomycin C at 0.2-0.4 mg/ml was subjected to patients of the former group for 2-4min, and 5% heparin was used in patients of the later group. Results: During a follow-up of 6 months, the success rate of the two groups was both higher than that of the standard trabeculectomy group. The difference between the two groups was not significant（P>0.05）.　Conclusion： Both intra-operative mitomycin C and post-operative heparin can improve the success rate and regain the functional bleb for a long time.
