A new method to locate the lacrimal sac in dacryocystorhinostomy under endoscopy

Abstract: To explore the feasibility of a new method to locate the lacrimal sac in dacryocystorhinostomy under endoscopy. MethodsThe lacrimal bone′s sclerotin of the foreside was remove from below to above by bayonet type bone forceps, so the nasolacrimal canal and then the paries medialis′s mucous membrane of the lacrimal sac were exposed. ResultsThe lacrimal sac was easily found by this method and the important surrounding tissues, such as the anterior ethmoidal artery, the nasolacrimal canal, the lamina papyracea, and the anterior ethmoidal sinuses were not easily injured. Postoperative healing was ideal, and the constructed ostium was rarely occluded. ConclusionThis new intranasal method is feasible for locating the lacrimal sac under endoscopy and is worthy to be spread.
