Efficacy of fluconazole for fungal otitis externa (71 cases report)

Abstract: Objective To investigate the method and efficacy of fluconazole in the treatment of fungal otitis externa. Methods 139 patients diagnosed as fungal otitis externa were divided into 2 groups, with 71 patients in observation group treated with fluconazole bathing, and 68 patients in control group treated with miconazole nitrate cream. All patients were followed up for 1 year. Results Both methods were effective in the treatment of fungal otitis externa, but the recurrence rate of the control group was higher than the observation group one year later(P<0.05). Conclusion The recurrence rate of fluconazole bathing to treat fungal otitis externa is low. This method is simple and easy to apply, with good compliance.
