Abstract:

Objective To explore the diagnosis and optimal management of laryngeal Schwannoma. Methods The clinical data of 3 laryngeal Schwannoma cases, from August 2000 to July 2011, were analyzed retrospectively. In addition, the literatures about this disease were reviewed. Results There were 2 female and one male patients, and their ages were 9, 3 and 59 years old, respectively. The lesions were located in the subglottic area, vestibular fold and laryngeal surface of the epiglottis, respectively. The tumors were removed through laryngofissure approach in one case and trans-oral CO2 laser-assisted laryngeal microsurgery in 2 cases. No recurrence was found in 6-month follow up. Conclusion Laryngeal Schwannoma is a rare benign neurogenic tumor of the larynx. Surgical resection is the most effective treatment.
