Objective acoustic analysis of the voice in early glottic laryngeal carcinoma following laser surgery

Abstract: Objective: To explore voice restoration of patients with glottic laryngeal carcinoma after laser surgery. Method: A computer vocal acoustics test system (Dr.speech for Windows) was used to determine the voice quality of 66 patients with glottic laryngeal carcinoma. Results: The value of jtter was not changed a lot, but the value of shimmer NNE was decreased at 3 months after surgery and the voice quality was significantly improved at 6 months after surgery and then in a steady state for typeⅡcompared with those for other types(P<0.01). Voice quality was improved in type Ⅲ at 6 months after surgery compared with that in types Ⅳ and Ⅴ (P<0.05) and it was not improved in types Ⅳ and Ⅴ at 1 year after surgery. Conclusion: Recovery time and quality are different in different types of laser surgery. The surgical range is closely related to the recovery of laryngeal structure and voice function.
