Abstract: To evaluate the effect of silicone oil removal on control of high intraocular pressure (IOP) of eyes after silicone oil injection. Methods84 cases subjected to inhospital treatments from June 2006 to March 2007 were grouped based on whether there was lens and silicon oil emulsification. Preoperative and postoperative IOP and other conditions were compared. ResultsAfter silicone oil was removed, the intraocular pressure was controlled to normal in 48 cases (57.1%). There were no statistical differences in efficiency between phakic and aphakic eyes (P>0.05). There were significant statistical differences in efficiency between the emulsified silicone oil cases and the nonemulsified cases (P<0.05). ConclusionSilicone oil removal is effective in controlling high IOP after intravitreal silicone oil injection. Cases without silicone oil emulsification may have better therapeutic value than those with emulsification oil.
