Trichiasis electrolyzer in treatment of congenital lacrimal fistula

Abstract:

To explore the therapeutic effect of the Trichiasis electrolyzer on congenital lacrimal fistula. MethodsFirst an exploring needle or irrigating needle was used to determine the course and total length of the fistula in13 cases of congenital lacrimal fistula patients. Second, bathing the lacrimal passage was carried out to make sure that the fistula and the lacrimal sac were connected. An electrolysis needle was inserted into the whole fistula and the source of electricity was turned on for 15 to 20 seconds until an air bladder appeared in the orifice of the fistula. Antibiotics were postoperatively used. ResultsAll cases were cured without epiphora. None recurred during a 16 month followup after the treatment. ConclusionThe Trichiasis electrolyzer is convenient, safe, effective without bleeding, infection, and scaring for congenital lacrimal fistula.
