Abstract:

Objective  To investigate the effect of dexamethasone to reduce pain after tonsillectomy in adults.  Methods  In this study, 97 adults were randomly assigned to receive dexamethasone. All patients were asked to note the level of pain during oral intake after operation. Results  Compared with the control group, the patients who received dexamethasone had significantly less pain score during the first 5 days after operation(P<0.01). No difference was found in the 6th and 7th days between the two groups. Conclusion  Postoperative dexamethasone use significantly reduces early post-tonsillectomy pain.
