Uvalopalatopharyngoplasty assisted with the ultracision harmonic scalpel

Abstract:

Objective      To evaluate the effectiveness of utracision harmonic scalpel assisted uvalopalatoparyngoplasty（UPPP） for OSAHS (obstructive sleep apnea and hyponea syndrome). Methods     Patients with OSAHS were randomly divided into two groups, with 20 cases in each group.  Group A was operated on with ultracision, while group B was operated on with the traditional method. Operative blood loss, the operation time, postoperative pain and complications were compared between two groups.  Results     The operative blood loss  and the operation time of group A were much less than in group B, while no difference in postoperative pain was found. Conclusion     The advantages of the ultracision scalpel assisted surgery consists of less operative blood loss and less operation time.
