Complications and treatment of nasal foreign body of button battery in 6 cases

Abstract: Objective To discuss the clinical characteristics, causes of misdiagnosis and complications in nasal foreign body of button battery. Methods The clinical data of 6 cases of nasal foreign body of button battery received and treated from January 2009 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Results All the button batteries were successfully removed. One case had no complications, 2 cases had perforation of the nasal septum, 2 cases had nasal synechia, and 1 case had partial necrosis of the turbinate. Conclusion Foreign body of button batteries in the nasal cavity can lead to serious complications which should be early discovered and early treated.
