Abstract: To analyze the pathogens of chronic suppurative otitis media and to test their antibiotic susceptibility. Methods: Pus from inner external auditory canal or middle ear was collected from 108 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media and cultured for pathogen identification and antibiotic susceptibility test. Results: Nine kinds of microbes were isolated, and their strain number were as follows: pseudomonas aeruginosa, 29(26.85%); staphylococcus aureus, 25(23.15%); proteus, 22(20.37%); others, 28(25.92%); and combined pathogens, 3(2.78%). All isolated pseudomonas aeruginosa were imipenem and polymyxinsensitive. Conclusion: Pathogen identification and susceptibility test are essential for appropriate antibiotic therapy in chronic suppurative otitis media.
