Cervical necrotizing fasciitis: a clinical report of 6 cases

Abstract: Objective: To improve the acknowledgement of surgeons on cervical necrotizing fasciitis. Methods: Six cases of cervical necrotizing fasciitis were treated in our hospital from 1999 to 2006 and the clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All the patients were treated with active surgical debridement and medical therapy. Five cases were cured and one case died due to severe complications including sepsis and multiple organ failure. Conclusion: Necrotizing fasciitis of the neck is a rapidly progressive soft tissue infection with high morality. Successful treatment of this disease consists of radical surgical debridement as early as possible, broad-spectrum of antibiotics and supportive therapy.
