Clinical efficacy of repairing auricular skin defects with posterior auricular flaps and their preparation with Gauze blotting.

Abstract: Objective To evaIuate the cIinicaI efficacy of repairing aurlcuIar skin defects with posterior auricuIar transposition fIaps and their preparation with Gauze blotting. Methods A total of 31 patients with auricular skin defects following auricular neoplasms hospitalized during March 2013 to September 2015 were performed reconstruction with posterior auricular transposition fIaps. After pathological tissue resection, posterior auricular flap was prepared with Gauze blotting. The pedicle of the flap could be superiorly or inferiorly based according to the position of the defect. The pedicle area was deepithelialized. The flap was transpositioned to reconstruct the skin defect of auricle through the window in the auricular cartilage. Result AII the transpositioned fIaps were survived. During a foIIow-up of 6 to 24 months, the skin of transferred fIaps were similar to that of the surrounding skin in color and appearance. Conclusion The operation of repairing anterior auricular skin defects with posterior auricular fIap is simpIe and safe. The donor area is located behind the ear, and the scar is hidden. Patients can achieve satisfactory aesthetic outcome.
