Abstract:

Objective   To discuss  different therapeutic methods of intractable epistaxis.  Method  Among the 224 cases, 50 cases received ligation of the external carotid artery, 35 cases received ligation of the ethmoidal artery, 139 cases were treated under nasal endoscopy, and 3 cases recevied nasopharyngeal packing.  Results  During a followedup of 3 months after management, the recurrent rate of ligation of the external carotid artery was 22%, of ligation of the ethmoidal artery was 17.14%, and of nasal endoscopic surgery was 2.88%. Conclusion   Endoscopy is effective and safe in finding bleeding points and controlling intractable epistaxis.
