Abstract:

Objective    To observe  the effect of radio-frequency ablation with lateral fracture in treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. Methods    105 cases were treated by radio-frequency tissue ablation with lateral fracture. The visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was measured before the treatment and 6 months after operation. Recovery and complications such as mycteroxerosis, nose bleeding, and adherence were observed during a 6-month follow-up period. Results    The pre-operative VAS score of nasal obstruction was 8.31±0.78 but decreased to 2.59±0.95 after the operation. The difference of VAS scores before and after the operation was statistically significant (P<0.01). Dry sensation occurred in 5 cases.  Conclusions    Radio-frequency  ablation with lateral fracture resulted in less intra-operative bleeding and mucosa damage, and a significant reduction in post-operative pain and complications.
