Abstract:

Objective       To discuss the clinical treatment for secretory otitis media (SOM) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients after radiotherapy. Methods       60 NPC patients with SOM after radiotherapy were randomly divided into two groups: patients in the single tube group received singel tube insertion for water-spreading and patients in the double tubes group received double tube insertion for ventilation and water-spreading. The therapeutic effect and complications between the two groups were compared during a follow-up of ten months. Results       After a  10 month follow-up, the effective rate was 56.8% and 77.3%(P<0.05) and the complication rate was 47.4% and 20.5%(P>0.05) in the single tube and double tube groups respectively. Conclusion       For SOM in NPC patients after radiotherapy, the effect of double tube insertion is superior to that of single tube insertion.
