Abstract:

Objective   To observe the curative effect of self ear cartilage tympanoplasty on adhesive otitis media. Methods   The data of 14 patients with adhesive otitis media who were treated with tympanoplasty mediated by the implantation of self ear cartilage were retrospectively reviewed, and intra-operative nidus records, and post-operative eardrums and hearing improvement level were analyzed. Results   All patients had dry ears after one month, including healing in 13, marginal crack in 1, ossicular chain reconstruction in 3,  and hearing loss in 1. The pre-operative average ABG (250, 500, 1000, and 2000kHz) was 50.25dB, the average ABG (250, 500, 1000, and 2000kHz) after one year was 17.22dB, and the average ABG was reduced by more than 25dB. Conclusion   It is feasible to treat adhesive otitis media by ear cartilage reconstruction. Clearing away nidus in operation and ensuring that Eustachian tube is open are very important for ideal effect.
