Abstract:

Objective   To investigate the clinical significance of regular follow-up of chronic nasal-sinusitis symptom improvement and quality of life impact after endoscopic sinus surgery. Methods   From December 2009 to September 2010 120 patients with sinusitis according to chronic nose-sinusitis diagnosis and treatment guidelines of the 2008 Nanchang standard were enrolled in our department and were divided into chronic nose not associated with sinusitis and chronic nasal polyps and sinusitis associated with nasal polyp groups (n=60). Two groups of patients were on regular follow-up dressing for one year. The main symptom status and quality of life improvement of all patients were evaluated before and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. Results   Of 60 patients without nasal polyps, at 6 months 36 cases were cured, 20 cases improved, and 4 cases were invalid. At 12 months 50 patients were cured, 7 cases improved, and 3 cases invalid. Of the nasal polyps group, at 6 months 30 cases recovered, 27 cases improved, and 3 cases were invalid. At 12 months 37 cases were cured, 20 cases improved, and 3 cases were invalid. The two groups had statistically significant differences between disease outcomes. At 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after endoscopic sinus surgery, the first major symptom scores decreased (P<0.01); Compared with the preoperative, the 20 items and 5 items scores rated from 1 month also declined (P<0.01). Conclusion    Endoscopic sinus surgery with regular follow-up dressing can significantly improve surgical outcome.
