Abstract:

Objective    To explore the clinical features and diagnostic methods of labyrinthine ossification. Methods   The retrospective analysis was conducted in 3 cases  (3 ears) diagnosed as chronic otitis media complicated with labyrinthine ossification in our department from June 2009 to June 2011. Clinical characteristics, computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) manifestations were discussed. Results   Cochlea, semicircular canals and vestibule with ossification occurred in the right ears of the 3 patients. CT showed the cochlear duct and semi-regulatory tube were filled with high-density shadows, and MRI water imaging failed to show the structure of the labyrinth. Conclusion   CT/MRI is an appropriate method for  identification of labyrinthine ossification.
