Local application of glucocorticoids for chronic sinusitis andnasal polyps after endoscopic surgery

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the role of glucocorticoids locally applied in chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps after endoscopic surgery. Methods： A total of 300 patients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps were randomly divided into treatment and control groups, in which local glucocorticoid hormone plus routine treatment and routine treatmeat alone were given respectively after operation. Results: During a followup from 6 to 12 months, 152(90.5%) patients were cured, 12(7.1%) were relieved and 4(2.4%) were suffering from nasal polyps again in the treatment group, whereas 107 (81.1%), 12(9.1%) and 13(9.9%) respectively in the control, the difference between the two groups was significant (P＜0.05). Conclusion: Glucocorticoids locally applied in sinusitis and nasal polyps after endoscopic surgery are effective for preventing the recurrence.
