Abstract: To observe the effect of Azithromycin on the epithelialization of nasal mucosal of chronic sinusitis after endoscopic sinus surgery. Methods: From December 2004 to December 2005, 59 patients with chronic sinusitis and/or nasal polyp were treated with endoscopic surgery. One month after the operation, they were divided into two groups, and 37 patients were treated with cephamycin as a control group and 22 with Azithromycin as a experimental group. The course and the number of epithelialization were counted. Results: Within 6 months, epithelialization happened in 22126 days( average 51.1423±27.655 days) in control group, and in 1188 days( average 33.046±18.874 days) in experimental group, and the difference was statistically significant(t=2.624, P=0.006). Epithelialization happened in 28 cases in the control group and 22 cases in experimental group, and the difference was also statistically significant (χ2=4.573, P=0.033). Conclusion: Azithromycin is effective in accelerating the epithelialization of nasal mucosa after endoscopic sinus surgery.
