Thyroid cartilage damage and airway invasion caused by tracheogenic cyst: a rare case report

Abstract: Objective To reduce misdiagnosis and erroneous treatment of tracheal cysts by investigating their clinical manifestations, diagnostic criteria, treatment, and prognosis. Methods The clinical data of a patient with a tracheal cyst was retrospectively analyzed and relevant literature was reviewed. Results The clinical manifestations of tracheal cysts lack specificity, and routine indirect laryngoscopy has been known to cause mistaken or delayed diagnoses. Electronic laryngoscopy and imaging examinations can improve diagnosis rates. Tracheal cysts can be treated effectively with decompression surgery, and pathological biopsies can be helpful for diagnosis and prognosis assessment. Conclusion Tracheal cyst of characteristic clinical and imaging manifestation. Medical history, systemic examinations, and pathological biopsies are very important for diagnosis and treatment of tracheal cysts.
