Oil gauze of traditional Chinese medicine for nasal packing after functional endoscopic sinus surgery

Abstract:

Objective〓〖WTBZ〗To develop a new nasal packing material which is suitable for relieving pain and reducing bleeding and is economical. 〖WTHZ〗Methods〓〖WTBZ〗Based upon traditional Chinese medical theory, herb oil gauzes were made and used in 85 cases of functional endoscopic sinus surgery （ FESS ）. Also, paraffin gauzes were used in 101 cases. Pains, bleeding, and smell were analyzed in the two groups. 〖WTHZ〗Results〓〖WTBZ〗The incidence rate of nasal pain or headache, post-operative nasal bleeding, nasal bleeding when removing the packing materials and bad smell were 25.74%，30.69%，42.57% and 40.59% in the paraffin gauze group, however they were 17.65%，16.47%，12.94% and 16.47% in the herb oil gauze group. The differences were statistically significant (Ｐ<0.01). 〖WTHZ〗Conclusions〓〖WTBZ〗This traditional Chinese medical herb oil gauze has advantages of little pain, little bleeding, quick healing and is economical.
