Fiberoptic laryngoscopy to examine the esophagus in 209 cases

Abstract:

Objective   To study the feasibility and clinical effectiveness of fiberoptic laryngoscopy in examining the esophagus.   Methods   209 patients with esophageal diseases were examined by fiberoptic laryngoscopy.  Results   In 209 cases, 117 cases were diagnosed as 76 reflux esophagitis, 7  esophageal hiatus hernia, 5 mycotic esophagitis, 3 esophageal diverticulum, 3 esophageal varicosis, 1  Barrett esophagus,1  xanthoma of the esophagus, 2 esophageal polyps, 7 carcinoma of the esophagus, 1 carcinoma of gastric cardia and 11 foreign bodies. The results were confirmed by pathological and/or electronic gastroscopy.   Conclusions   Fiberoptic laryngoscopy can be used to examine the esophagus, with little pain for patients. It is helpful for ENT doctors to make differentiation in the throat diseases related to esophageal reflux.
