Stenosed spaces of ostiomeatal complex in chronic sinusitis

Abstract: To discuss the relationship between the stenosed spaces of ostiomeatal complex(OMC), middle nasal conchanasal septum and chronic sinusitis, and the relative factors causing the syenosed spaces. Methods: Eightynine patients(1462 years old,171 sides of nasal cavity and sinus)were examined with coronal and high resolution CT scaning. The CT manifestations of the stenosed spaces of OMC,middle nasal conchanasal septum and the anatomic variations of OMC were comparatively analyzed between the inflammatory sinuses and the normal ones. Result: The stenosed spaces were different between the inflammatory sinuses and the normal ones and there was significant statistically(P<0.01); the OMCs was significantly related with chronic sinusitis(P<0.01). Conclusion: Stenosed spaces of OMC is an important factor causing sinusitis and must be corrected in endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS).
