Endoscopic sinus surgery for 75 patients with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps

Abstract: Objective: To observe the longterm curative effect of endoscopic sinus surgery（ESS）. Method: Seventyfive cases（125 sides） of chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps were treated with ESS, and were followed up for 1 year after operation. Results: Fourtyeight cases were cured （64.0%）, 20 achieved symptomatic relief（26.7%）, 7 remained failure（9.3%）, and the response rate was 90.7%. The major operative complication was adhesion of nasal cavity. Conclusion: ESS has an ideal effect on chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. Careful treatment of middle turbinate, inferior turbinate and nasal septum, and regular followup are important to reduce complications.
