Clinical features and management of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infection after laryngectomy

Abstract: To investigate the clinical features and treatment for patients with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infection after laryngectomy. Methods The clinical data of 7 patients who had MRSA infection after laryngectomy in our hospital from Aug 2002 to Oct 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsAmong the 7 patients, 4 patients with pharyngeal fistulas were treated by drainage and dressing change and 1 of them was also treated with vancomycin, 2 with pulmonary infection and 1 with trachea stoma infection were treated with vancomycin. All 7 patients were cured. ConclusionVancomycin, drainage and dressing change are effective for laryngeal carcinoma patients with pulmonary infection or local MRSA infection after laryngectomy.
