Abstract:

Objective    To explore the value of the combination of fenestration with curettage in the treatment of mandibular giant cystic ameloblastoma in order to preserve the shape and function of the mandibular. Methods    Twelve cases of mandibular giant cystic ameloblastoma were treated with fenestration and drainage. Duration of drainage ranged from 6 to 8 months, and the reduction of lesions was observed by X-ray film. All cases were treated with second-stage curettage when mandibular osteogenesis was stable. Results    All of the cases were cured. The mandibular rumas, sigmoid notch and coronoid process were remolded with integrity and continuity. Conclusion    The combination of fenestration with curettage in the treatment of mandibular giant cystic ameloblastoma does less damage to the tissue, and has shorter operation time, less postoperative complications, and less chance to have teeth, bones, lower alveolar nerves and vessels injured. For clinic doctors, it is worth learning.
