Relationship between variations of dissection and chronic sinusitis

Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between variations of dissection and chronic sinusitis. Methods 286 patients with chronic sinusitis and 100 normal persons were selected as the experimental and control groups. Variations of dissection were analyzed by preoperative computed tomography of nasal sinuses and by endoscopy. Result Chronic sinusitis correlated with septal deformity, uncinate process shift and hypertrophy, pneumation and paradoxical curvature of the middle turbinate, ethmoid bulla, agger nasi cell and Haller′s cell. Conclusion Variations of dissection, especially of the septal deformity are risk factors for chronic sinusitis.
