Abstract: Objective: To assess the value of epiglottis in repair of vertical partial laryngectomy for pyriform sinus carcinoma. Method: From February2000 to February 2004, 9 patients with vocal cord paralysis combined with pyriform sinus carcinoma undergoing repair with epiglottis were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The mean resumption of oral intake was 13 days (10～18 days) after operation without severe aspiration; and the mean decannulation was 19 days (15～25 days). All patients recovered acceptable voice, 5 cases enjoyed satisfactory phonation, but 4 cases showed severe hoarseness. Conclusion: Epiglottis is reliable and convenient in vertical partial laryngeal reconstruction.
