Epiglottis flaps in the reconstruction of laryngeal dysfunction following partial laryngectomy in glottic carcinoma

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of epiglottis flaps in re-operative reconstruction for patients with laryngeal dysfunction following partial laryngectomy. Method Nineteen patients with laryngeal dysfunction subjected to partial laryngectomies for glottic carcinoma were treated with re-operative reconstruction with epiglottis flaps. Results Eighteen patients (94.7%) were successfully decannulated 17 to 194 days after reconstruction. One patient failed because of cicatrization. Conclusion Epiglottis flaps in the reconstruction of the laryngeal cavity following partial laryngectomy are easily gained and had good efficiency.
