Intractable primary epistaxis: a report of 101 cases

Abstract: Objective To investigate the management of intractable epistaxis. Methods 101 cases suffering from epistaxis were subjected to nasal endoscopy. Coagulation using bipolar electro-coagulation or scraping the bleeding points was performed before mini-traumatic padding or modified choanal plugging. Result 78 cases were cured with a single treatment and 23 by twice using nasal endoscopy. Conclusions Hemorrhage can be preferably controlled by identifiying the bleeding points by coagulation using bipolar electro-coagulation, and those that are not identified by the bleeding points can be cured by mini-traumatic nasal padding or modified choanal plugging.
