Clinical analysis of 11 cases of Hurthle cell tumor

Abstract: To discuss the clinicopathological characteristics of Hurthle cell tumor and its principle of diagnosis and treatment. MethodsFrom August 1999 to November 2006, the clinical data of 11 patients with Hurthle cell tumor were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsAll 11 Hurthle cell tumors were benign. By fineneedle aspiration cytology before the operations, 7 cases(63.6%) were definitely diagnosed. By frozensection histology in the operations, 9 cases were definitely diagnosed. All were operated on and followed up for 1680 months without recurrence and death. ConclusionPreoperative fineneedle aspiration cytology combined with intraoperative frozen-section histology is useful for diagnosis of Hurthle cell tumor and for operative modality.
