Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy(SLIT) in the treatment of allergic rhinitis in combination with intranasal steroids. Methods Ninety AR patients were randomly divided into two groups: 60 patients treated by SCIT+steroids and the other 30 patients only treated with intranasal steroids. The nasal symptom scores of pruritus, sneezing, rhinorrhea and nasal obstruction were evaluated using a four-point raiting scale (from 0=absent to 3=severe) before the treatment and six months and a year after the treatment. Then the scores were compared. Results The nasal symptom scores of all patients were significantly decreased after treatment(P<0.05), and the symptoms after treatment were alleviated more significantly after one year than after 6 months in the combination group(P<0.05). However, there were no significant difference between the two periods in the single nasal spray group (P>0.05). The scores of nasal symptom in the combination group were significant lower than the single nasal spray group whether after 6 months or after 12 months. Conclusion Combination therapy of SLIT and intranasal steroids is more effective for allergic rhinitis than intranasal steroids alone.
