Abstract: To study the changes of serum NO and NOS and plasma ET after appropriate treatment for patients with sudden deafness. Methods： Serum NO/NOS ratio and plasma ET contents were measured respectively by EIA and RIA in 58 patients with sudden deafness before and after treatment, as well as in 30 controls. Results： Serum levels of NO were significantly lower (P＜0.05), but levels of NOS and ET significantly higher (P＜0.01) in patients with sudden deafness than those in the controls before treatment. One month after treatment, the serum levels of NO and NOS in the patients were not much different from those in the controls (P＞0.05), but plasma ET levels remained significantly higher (P＜ 0.05). Conclusion： Changes of serum NO/NOS ratio and plasma ET contents after treatment might be of prognostic importance in patients with sudden deafness.
