Abstract: Objective    To investigate the expression of IL-15mRNA in nasal polyps and its relation with Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL and to find out the source of IL-15 in nasal polyps and its role in nasal polyps. Methods    The in situ hybridization(ISH) method was used to detect the expression of IL-15mRNA in nasal polyps and inferior nasal concha. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL in nasal polyps and inferior nasal concha. Results    The expression of IL-15mRNA in nasal polyps was higher than that in inferior nasal concha (P<0.05), so did the Bcl-XL expression(P<0.01). The expression of Bcl-2 was not significant between the nasal polyps and the inferior nasal concha. The expressions of IL-15mRNA and Bcl-XL were positively correlated with each other. Conclusion    IL-15 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps by inhibiting the apoptosis of eosinophlis and other inflammatory cells, which maybe do by up regulating the expression of Bcl-XL by the way of autocrine or paracrine.
