Changes of vestibular function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome

Abstract: Objective To observe the changes of vestibular function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrom (OSAHS). Methods The video of nystagmus figure (VNG) check of 42 OSAHS cases and 30 healthy controls were examined. The results of spontaneous nystagmus test, oculomotor center test, vestibular bithermal calorid test and positional test conducted in the two groups were compared. Results The results of spontaneous nystagmus test and oculomotor center test were statistically different between the two groups (P<0.05). In OSAHS cases, the apnea hypopnea index (AHI) and history were closely related to vestibular dysfunction (P<0.05). Conclusion OSAHS may cause dysfunction of central vestibule. The changes of vestibular function can be timely detected with VNG tests and can help us further understand OSAHA effects on body systems.
